How Strengths Can Help You Rebuild in Times of Challenge

What do you do when life feels like it’s falling apart — when your career is uncertain, pressure at home is mounting, and your confidence begins to crack?

For many leaders, these moments of challenge become turning points. They force us to pause, reflect, and ask: Where do I go from here?

When I first received my Gallup CliftonStrengths® report, it felt like I was looking in the mirror. But it wasn’t during a high point in my career.

It was during one of the hardest seasons of my life.

A close family member had betrayed my trust. I was about to lose my corporate job. I didn’t yet have my coaching certification, and financial worries kept me awake at night — my husband earned less at the time, and I feared we wouldn’t manage. I felt invisible, helpless, and small.

It was burnout at every level — professional, personal, and emotional.

That’s when I turned to CliftonStrengths®. And that’s when I started to rebuild.

How My Strengths Helped Me — and How They Help My Clients

🌍 Relator

  • For me: In a time of betrayal and isolation, Relator reminded me that I am strongest in deep, trusted relationships. I leaned on a small circle of people who truly understood me, and that gave me the courage to keep going.
  • For my clients: Relator allows me to create that same safe space for them — where they can reflect honestly, share doubts without judgment, and grow through real partnership. Some clients I started working with 10 years ago still come back to me today. Trust lasts.

💡 Ideation

  • For me: When everything felt fragmented, Ideation helped me connect the dots. I could take pieces of chaos — fear, uncertainty, loss — and still imagine patterns and possibilities for a different future.
  • For my clients: I bring the same creativity into coaching. When leaders feel stuck, I help them reframe, discover fresh perspectives, and see options they hadn’t considered before.

📚 Learner

  • For me: Even in the middle of burnout, my Learner drove me to explore, read, and grow. It explained why I had always chosen new experiences and stretch assignments — even without formal knowledge. Learning gave me momentum when everything else felt stalled.
  • For my clients: I use this drive to bring evidence-based practices, fresh tools, and global insights into my work. I help leaders stretch safely, building confidence as they grow into bigger roles.

🏆 Achiever

  • For me: I was known in corporate life for getting things done under any circumstances. That resilience carried me through when I felt like everything else was falling apart. But I also learned the dark side of Achiever: burnout. I discovered that achievers value freedom — we thrive when trusted to deliver in our own way, not micromanaged.
  • For my clients: I help leaders harness their drive without burning out, finding ways to combine discipline with freedom, productivity with balance.

🔮 Futuristic

  • For me: In my darkest moments, Futuristic gave me a lifeline — the ability to imagine a better tomorrow. Even when I felt invisible, I could picture a future where I was strong, visible, and impactful again. That vision carried me through.
  • For my clients: I bring that future-focus into every coaching conversation. I help leaders not just solve today’s problems, but build careers, strategies, and identities that last.

Belief

  • For me: Belief anchored me when everything else felt uncertain. It reminded me that I can only do work that aligns with my values — that I can’t just “do tasks” without purpose.
  • For my clients: This means I partner with leaders and organizations who share a commitment to meaningful growth. I help them connect their personal values to their leadership, so they don’t just succeed, but succeed with integrity.

Looking Back Today

Now, when I look back at that time, I know I chose the right focus. Since then, I’ve:

  • Earned my PCC with ICF and became a Gallup-Certified Coach
  • Built a thriving coaching and consulting practice across regions and industries
  • Supported my husband in securing a new role in a great company
  • Helped ambitious leaders and organizations navigate transitions, complexity, and transformation

Final Thought

The Gallup CliftonStrengths® assessment wasn’t just another tool for me. It was the moment I accepted who I am — and started rebuilding with intention.

That’s why I use it with my clients today. Not as a silver bullet, but as a starting point for sustainable growth and real impact. Because when leaders reconnect with their strengths, they find the clarity, energy, and confidence to lead not just for performance — but for long-term growth and wellbeing.

👉 If you’re ready to explore your own strengths and how they can shape your leadership future, I’d be honored to be your thinking partner in that journey.
